Thanks for doing this for one of my favorite songs. I've wanted to see a tutorial on this for a long time. Glad you showed why the way I was playing the Am7 didn't quite sound right. PS: You might get more hits by showing the song title as "I'll be long gone", which is the song's name on the album.

I spent about an hour trying to figure this out from the Northern Lights studio version, in drop D tuning with a capo at the 3rd fret, and other than the intro and the chorus I was really stumped. It's an interesting song, and one of the Band's most beautiful in my opinion. Not sure why it's not more well known. I'd never heard it until a few years ago. This is very helpful - thanks for posting it.
